Zavojsko Lake is an artificial lake located at the foot of Stara planina, 15 km away from film friendly town of Pirot. It was created in 1963, after rapid melting of snow, when landslides generated a natural dam on the river Visočica. It is 17 kilometers long, with maximum width of 300 meters and maximum depth is about 60 meters. It spreads on over 5.53 square kilometers, at an altitude of 612 meters. The primary purpose of the lake water is to run the turbines of “Pirot” powerplant, but it is becoming a great tourist attraction of this part of southeast Serbia.
